RANDOM THOUGHTS

My wife took this photo of Hayes and me this weekend—and it’s one of my favorites of us.

We took a short trip to NYC for some much-needed R&R, quality family time and no agenda. The energy of the city, the magic (and chaos) on every block, the history, the pride people have for their neighborhoods—I love it all. The creativity in the subway ads, the billboards, the talented street musicians, the restaurants, the bakeries... it all leaves me feeling inspired and recharged every time we visit.

But this time, seeing the city through my four-year-old son’s eyes was very special. He was fired up the entire time—on every walk, every bite of pasta, every new cookie shop. He hardly slept because he was too excited to explore new playgrounds and learning about the big city. (Well, and the sugar rushes probably had something to do with it, too...)

I don’t even know why I’m posting this, other than I’m feeling incredibly grateful. Grateful for my little family, for the opportunity to sneak away and fall in love with different parts of this beautiful world. For the reminder that we can always learn from—and be inspired by—the people and the cultures different from our own. I hope all of my friends get a fun time like this with your loved ones very soon. 💙
